THE NEW RESTAURANT I PLAN TO VISIT IN JANUARY – Being January, naturally everyone has a focus on healthy eating. I’m not being overly strict, counting calories or macros but I am focussing on cleaner, lighter meals for a while. Evelyn’s on Tibb Street in the Northern Quarter is relatively new to the Manchester food scene. According to the press they’re ‘managing to be healthy without being preachy’ and offer nutritious breakfasts such as coconut chia pot topped with pineapple and mango and ‘green bowls’ filled with spinach, kale, avocado, fresh herb leaves, puy lentils and topped with a soft boiled egg. It sounds right up my street, perfect for the Northern Quarter and I can’t wait to try this place out! I’ll report back and let you know what it’s like…
THE FOODIE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT TO FOLLOW – I follow a tonne of foodie Instagrammers and could fill an entire day scrolling and double tapping, but my first ‘you have to follow’ of the year in case you’re looking for any inspiration is Nourishing Jessica. Not only is her account is full of tasty, ‘nourishing’ food inspiration and artfully styled photos, but she also has a degree in food and is a professional chef so really knows what she’s talking about.
THE NEW COOK BOOK TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION – I was a lucky girl and received the River Cottage Light and Easy cook book for Christmas. Yes, there’s a healthy focus with the recipes being gluten and wheat-free but they also look really filling and easy to make for mid-week meals. There’s over 150 to try including pumpkin seed drop scones, wheat-free spinach wraps, speedy fish and tomato curry, spiced beef with bashed beans, aromatic nutty chicken and chocolate and avocado mousse, and A-maz-ing looking brownies and I’ll be working my way through some of these over the next few months…I’ve also just treated myself to the Lean in 15 recipe book by The Body Coach as I’ve been following him for the past 12 months it would be rude not to! Most of my dinners have been inspired by or adapted from his recipes and I find his online videos hilarious with his catch phrases ‘In with the Lucy Bee!’ (Coconut oil), ‘Throw in those midget trees’ (broccoli) and ‘Guilteeeeeeee!’ I can’t wait to try out some new recipes and have a go at some of home workouts that are included. It’s currently on offer at Waterstones and I’m excited to be going to his launch event later this month! #superfan
THE FELLOW FOOD BLOG I’M FOLLOWING – I stumbled across SpamellaB late last year via Twitter and now I’m completely addicted to her foodie updates. She’s a fellow Manchester based health and food blogger who creates a regular stream of her own gluten-free, high protein, healthy recipes all following the concept #IndulgingInnocently. There are plenty of options for those with a sweeter tooth and I can’t wait to work my way through some of her latest ideas. I’ll report back on which ones I try!
THE RECIPE THAT I CAN’T WAIT TO TRY – Peanut butter protein balls! I have a major nut butter addiction at the moment and I usually have a spoonful of raw nut butter when I get home as a treat before I head off to the gym. I saw Anna from VDM adapt a Madeleine Shaw recipe for raw chocolate peanut butter cake to turn them into bite size protein balls and I literally cannot wait to try them. I’m hoping to make these in my blender so I’ll let you know how I get on.
So, the Fitness Posts seem to be going down well… being a foodie and this being predominantly a food blog I wasn’t sure how interested you would be in my fitness posts, some of you might say ‘ohhh bore off with your fitness’ (and there are plenty of experts with blogs on that front). But the feedback from you guys is that you like the monthly update, seeing before and after pictures and hearing how an exercise novice is getting along including my triumphs and fails. I felt pretty nervous about posting progress photos (this is the first time my belly has ever made it onto the world wide web!). I still plan to keep them monthly for now as I’m finding that they’re a good way to keep me motivated and accountable on the fitness front. Being January I’m in the mood to up things a little so bring it on!
But for now, lets get back to the FOOD!
