It’s been a while since the last fitness update back in June. It feels crazy that that was my one year update and before that fitness wasn’t part of my life. No gym. No running. Didn’t even own sportswear. No joke. How things have changed eh?
If there’s one thing I want to do with these posts it’s to encourage anyone thinking about getting fitter to stop thinking and just give it a go. Try out new things. Do it now. Step out of your comfort zone. Set a goal and go for it. What have you got to lose? You’ll be amazed how quickly you start to see a difference.
For me my ‘magic’ weight loss solution has been discovering lifting heavy weights. I feel I need to shout about this as seriously it’s a game changer! There’s still a stigma that makes girls cautious but hey the Victoria’s Secret girls have been doing it for years and they’re hardly bulky? It melts away fat quicker than cardio replacing it with muscle (if you’re aiming for ‘toning’ that’s it!) Tempted yet? Just make sure you get a PT or some professional coaching to guide you on technique.
So what’s new since the last update?
I started training to become a certified Nutritionist. I’m loving the learning and can’t wait to put it into practice and help with your requests for meal plans and diet tips.
I finally moved up to get my red wrist band. These are little coloured bands that you get as you progress and get stronger. I’ve been after a red band all year and I actually did a dance around the gym when I got it. I’d been trying to add 4kg to my bench press all year and just couldn’t get there. 4kg might not sound a lot (some days my hand bag weighs more than that Ha!) but ohhh my days does it feel a lot when you’re lying under a bar with 40kg on it.
Planking with a 20kg weight on my back.
Managed kettle bell swings with 36kg/red bell.
Deadlifted 3 x 110kg
Bench pressed 3 x 40kg
Squatted 3 x 70kg
Finally managed: 3 x strict chin ups
Steady progression adding a little weight to the above. Perfecting more full chin ups. Trying to maintain fitness and weight over the Christmas period. I’d love a 3 x body weight deadlift next year.
How are you all getting on? What are your goals for 2017? I love hearing your progress!
