Recently I was invited behind the scenes at Chop’d’s new Manchester store where they told me all about their concept and how they started out. I got to sample some of their awesome ingredients and they even let me loose in their kitchen.
If you don’t know about Chop’d, they started out as a stall on Leadenhall Market in 2004 and now have 12 stores across London. They’ve just opened their first in Manchester and now sell over 20,000 salads a week. I instantly liked their way of thinking and the menu is right up my street.
They have a passion for quality flavour packed ingredients and believe that when produce is sourced locally and when it’s in season – that it just tastes better. They don’t like to mess about with trendy faddy ingredients and have worked with the majority of their suppliers since they started out in 2004.
They have a huge deli bar where you can design your own salad – you can choose a base (grains), 3 veg/salad choices, meat or fish, your dressing and topping. There are literally so many options to choose from. A nice touch is if you don’t need a carrier bag they’ll throw in another veggie option for free. The salad boxes are huge and popular enough at lunch time to create a queue out of the store. If you’re in a rush and can’t wait there’s a fridge full of readymade salads. I like that all of the salads come without dressing and they leave you free to choose from a huge range of small pots such as pesto, balsamic, mango, lemon oil and they positively encourage you to mix things up.
I was in my element in their kitchen and created a Super Power salad packed with protein, slow release carbs and healthy fats including mixed leaves, cucumber, peas, broccoli, edamame beans, brown rice, lentils, feta, flaked smoked salmon, chopped herbs (basil and coriander), sunflower seeds, pesto and lemon oil dressing. It was daaaaaaammmmn tasty!
Aside from the salads, there’s a range of other stuff on offer ranging from breakfast options like porridge, muesli and yoghurt and granola pots, fruit pots, soups, stews and snack pots.
Another bonus is that they’ve partnered with Grindsmith for their coffee bar (a local independent coffee start up who now have several locations across the city). I recommend their flat whites!
If you haven’t been to Chop’d yet today’s the perfect time to give it a try!
For Manchester friends it’s on Cross Street in the city centre, for London buddies you’re spoilt for choice with various locations.
Let me know what options you go for!
